When I uninstalled Crawler Toolbar, a message indicated there had been an error, and maybe the program had been uninstalled earlier and did I want the name removed. I did.

While waiting for a reply, I want to mention here what happens when I open Chrome. I know that this forum is not for browser issues, but this part connects the Intensive Care Forum to my browser, as I do not know if it is browser related, or Intensive Care related. I had my home page as MSN.com and Chrome pinned to the Task Bar. When I open this shortcut, two tabs open in Chrome. The one which is front has MSN.com showing, the second tab only shows the tab and the title is Vestoran. If i click on the tab, that page opens to a search. I went to the section in Chrome listing browsers and deleted Vestoran, but the tab still shows. I can close the tab, of course, and do, but it is still there after all we have done here. I mentioned I had MSN as my home page because I went into settings and changed the home page to Google.com, and when I close the browser and reopen it, MSN.com comes up as the opening page. If I click on the icon to go to home page, Google.com opens. The home page icon takes me to the correct home page, but clicking on Chrome.exe -- I located the file and tried this -- or any Chrome shortcut pinned to the Task Bar, MSN.com opens as the home page, with the Vestoran tab. I have a few Chrome shortcuts on the desktop going to other sites, and when I click on any of them, I am taken to the site correctly and no vestoran tab shows. I have opened any of these shortcuts, minimized it to the task bar, pinned the shortcut to the task bar, then reopened it and now it takes me to MSN.com with the vestoran tab. Click on the home page icon and Google.com opens. I thought that going to the browser forum with this first might lead someone there to tell me this is an infectious issue and needs to be here. We have cleaned out all the cookies and history. Suggestions on how to deal with this? Thanks.

    Reset Chrome...
Click on "Customize and control Google Chrome":

Click "Settings" then "Show advanced settings" at the bottom of the screen.
    Click "Reset browser settings" button.
    Restart Chrome.

    If the above didn't help....

    Reinstall Chrome...
If you want to save your bookmarks...
How to Backup Bookmarks in Google Chrome
If you want to save your passwords as well see here: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-ba...hrome-browser/

    • Close all Chrome windows and tabs.
    • Go to the Start menu > Control Panel. (Windows 8 users: Learn how to access the Control Panel)
    • Click Programs and Features.
    • Double-click Google Chrome.
    • Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialog. Delete your user profile information, like your browser preferences, bookmarks, and history, by selecting the "Also delete your browsing data" checkbox.

    Install fresh copy.

You helped. In Chrome one can have several tabs show when the program opens and when I opened to set the home page, I realized the vestoran URL was the second tab set to be available. Sorry I had missed that earlier. Almost like "buy one and get one free." So I set an opening tab and deleted the other, and that took care of it. Thanks so much for working through this with me.

    Your computer is clean

    1. This step will remove all cleaning tools we used, it'll reset restore points (so you won't get reinfected by accidentally using some older restore point) and it'll make some other minor adjustments...
This is a very crucial step so make sure you don't skip it.
Download DelFix by Xplode to your desktop. Delfix will delete all the used tools and logfiles.

Double-click Delfix.exe to start the tool.
Make sure the following items are checked:

    • Activate UAC (optional; some users prefer to keep it off)
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Create registry backup
    • Purge System Restore
    • Reset system settings

Now click "Run" and wait patiently.
Once finished a logfile will be created. You don't have to attach it to your next reply.

    2. Make sure Windows Updates are current.

    3. If any trojans, rootkits or bootkits were listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

    4. Check if your browser plugins are up to date.
    Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
other browsers: https://browsercheck.qualys.com/ (click on "Scan without installing plugin" and then on "Scan now")

    5. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

    6. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

    7. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC), AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) weekly (you need to redownload these tools since they were removed by DelFix).

    8. Download and install Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI): http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/. The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Run it weekly.

    9. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

    10. When installing\updating ANY program, make sure you always select "Custom " installation, so you can UN-check any possible "drive-by-install" (foistware), like toolbars etc., which may try to install along with the legitimate program. Do NOT click "Next" button without looking at any given page.

    11. Read:

Thanks for helping me through this. TFC, JRT and ADwCleaner are still in my DL directory, so I do not need to redownload them. I found a reference to ADwCleaner some place a few weeks ago and clicked on the link to go to it, and my site adviser program told me the site was questionable, so I did not continue but deleted the tab. Your link to the program went to a different site, of course, and I got the file there. So many legitimate programs are referenced by illegitimate sites with all sorts of malware. It appears to me FileHippo Update Checker and Secunia do similar things -- check for outdated programs. Are both needed? In resetting Chrome, I selected an extension for it, don't remember just which now, but when I opened Chrome the next time and went to Settings, the opening tabs section indicated that it was now controlled by the extension I had added. I immediately disabled it. A few minutes later MalwareBytes window popped up with an unwanted program -- it was the extension -- and it was quarantined and I needed to reboot to clear it out. At this point we are working well. So much thanks for taking your time to help, Now if I could just find how to get these lines WordWraped.

Look at post #3, keys like those two, are never wrapped which makes for easier reading.
Easier reading means we are less apt to miss something which is to your benefit.

My computer is clean, and that makes it work well. The vestoran malware added a second tab to my Chrome browser and I had no idea what else might
have happened when it come on board, so to speak. I adjusted the browser settings and at this point in time everything seems "good to go." And I really
appreciate the time you take to assist us.

    They check for different things.

Good luck and stay safe :0
