Win 7 Windows Firewall + Windows Defender + Malwarebytes (Paid Version)

Is this combination of protection software enough for my Windows 7 computer:
    - Windows 7 Firewall
    - Windows 7 Windows Defender
    - Malwarebytes (Paid Version)

Basically, I do not want to have duplicated anti-virus or internet security software installed.

    Please advise. Many thanks.

Sounds pretty good to me too. The only other significant addition that would helpful is to surf and do email as a regular/limited user instead of an administrator. (I do a fair amount more than that but much of it (I admit) is overkill.)

    Referring to your original list:
Windows Defender is not as good as Microsoft Security Essentials on Win 7. (The reverse is true for Win 8.)
I assume Train means Microsoft Security Essentials by "MSE".
Microsoft Security Essentials will conflict with MalwareBytes (paid version). Both are active scanners.
Essentially I am agreeing with Train. Those three are what I have on my PC.

Welshjim, you said "Essentially I am agreeing with Train. Those three are what I have on my PC. "

So, would there be any conflict if I install/activate the following, or would these three be effective?
    Win 7 Windows Firewall
    + Windows Defender
+ Malwarebytes (Paid Version or Malwarebytes Org calls it "Premium Version")

Also, right now Malwarebytes Org sells the Premium Version at $24.95 for 3 PC installations for one year (and say, I use the 3 copies already), what happens if I ditch one Win 7 PC (which has the paid version installed) and then buy another PC (e.g. a Notebook - running Win 7), would I have paid Malwarebytes Org for installing it on my Notebook? [Effectively I have 3 active PCs using the paid version].

The more shields you have up, the harder it is for something to get through.

    1. Firewalls - A firewall establishes a barrier between a trusted, secure internal network and another network (e.g., the Internet) that is assumed not to be secure and trusted. Firewalls exist both as a hardware appliance and as a software solution. If at all possible, you want both:

      • Many routers contain built-in firewall components that help protect your network from the public internet network.
      • Windows' software firewall helps protect your computer against internet intruders as well as from other computers on your own network.

    2. Anti-Virus software mainly helps protect against computer viruses. The best of the bunch currently is Trend Micro.

    3. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (anti-malicious software) helps protect you from new online threats that an antivirus can't detect. (The paid version automatically keeps a watchful eye out and keeps itself updated for you).

    4. MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit watches for exploits from compromising vulnerable code.

    5. CCleaner is an easy to use one click cleaner, with other helpful tools for advanced users.

    6. WinPatrol detects and helps prevent changes to important Windows settings, and much more.

    7. SpywareBlaster helps prevent the installation of spyware and other potentially unwanted software.

    8. Windows Updates are extremely important. To load the Windows Update App on Windows 7, click Start, type in wuapp and press [Enter]. In Windows 8, from the start (Metro) screen simply type wuapp and press [Enter].

    9. Secunia's PSI (Personal Security Inspector) helps keep track of non-Microsoft programs that need to be updated.

    10. And for advanced users, Microsoft's EMET (Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit) anti-hack tool helps raise the bar against attackers gaining access to computer systems.

No conflict but Windows Defender is not the choice on Win 7.
