TV is no problem at all, have even hooked my laptop to a 60 inch to view photos. Sure beat my monitor.
That info is good enough, now for some reasearch.

AMD A8-3550MX best i find it was never released.
It would havee to be a i7 powered laptop

    Rather spendy for me

But it would do what she wants to do.
Took time as I had to find something better than her A10-7850

I have read this thread twice, and although maybe I missed it, you did not indicated if you ran the Hard Drive Diagnostics? To see if in fact the hard drive is bad. If it passes, then one option is to restore the laptop back to factory. Most HP's have a recovery partition on the hard drive. If you boot and start tapping the F11 key, the HP Recover Manager should pop up, where you follow the screen to restore the laptop back to factory specs.

I would check the hard drive firs before going out and buying another Hard Drive or another Laptop.

One thing to remember if you restore it back to factory, you loose all he programs installed since it was new and you would have to re-install them from the original DVD's.
Please do not use "PM" for personal help, post in forum so everybody can learn
