HP scanner in network mode vs hotspot shield enquiry ..

My HP 2500 series scanner works great in both network mode and of course usb mode.. But today I installed hotspot shield ( as I am sick and tired of being turned down to see certain TV website videos (such as last Stephen Colbert report) or some youtube videos as they are only promised for the USA market ) ..,, discovered then when the hotspot mode is on ( green ) and everything appears to be working such as google browsing history and of course going to address's such as my membership for Netflix canada I can now see and playback Netflix videos back to my canadian PC.. but When I went to scan a document using with my HP 2500 series printer I got an error message .. but when I backed out and then used the USB prompt -no problem .. back to Hotspot turned it off .. back to scanner and no problem ..

is this a firewall issue or ...?? if so how to add this to my firewall ?

The hotspot shield setup is likely using a proxy server to allow your video access. This would be similar to using a VPN to access a work server from home. By design, this will cause your normal network and internet access to no longer work while the change is in effect.

DO you actually need to scan things while using hotspot shield?

no would only use hotspot on a sparingly basis not 24/7 ... would it be fixed thru a router fix ? looking to HP support but their web site is down for a couple of hours .

A search revealed what I suspected - Hotspot Shield is a VPN software. You are unlikely to fix the issue with router settings. With Hotspot Shield on, your normal network settings are replaced and devices are inaccessible. If you are only using it occasionally, then your scanner should work while it is not in use.
