[RESOLVED] Win 8 Update - Upgrading to 8.1
Nice little Dell Vostro 3300 with an i3 & 4 gigs of ram... I upgraded it from 7 to 8 so we could test our software on 8... All has been well for a long time.
Now, sometimes it runs fine. Most of the time Everything can take minutes to open. I've already spent too much time on it and should just nuke and pave it.... BUT:
Win updates for version 8 says there are 61 critical updates... After an hour, it's still on Zero percent download.
I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and go straight for the 8.1 update AND is it possible the lack of 8.1 is causing the current not downloading issue?!?!?!
This is my last attempt at fixing it before doing the nuke and pave back to win 7.
(malwarebytes says it's clean and I've looked for bad things that might be running)
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I would and did go directly to the 8.1 update. Because it was a tablet with only a wireless connection it took a very long time to d/l the 3Gig install file and then even longer to install it. 5+ hours in total.
Perhaps worth mentioning my tablet updates often sit at 0% downloaded for a long time before it starts to actually show progress.. then it jumps up relatively quickly. You might want to cancel the download and start over. That has done it for me a few times.

OK...Thanks... I'm going to do lunch and if it's still at Zero percent when I get done I think I stop the download and go for 8.1 .

"Your Windows 8.1 Install Couldn't be Completed"

Is that before or after the download?

That would certainly explain the issues. According to the specs I saw, it should have a 500 GB 7200 rpm HD.

It's a 320 gigger but it'll be getting a new 500 WD Black drive from Micro Center that I'll pickup on my way home.
Thank goodness I ordered the Win 7 DVD with the machine..... And the co-worker will be glad to not have Win 8 anymore. LOL

Same here. I'm hoping the tablet will support Win 10.

OMG.... I haven't installed on a new drive in a few years or any install for that matter.
New drive install went well.
Win install went well.
Install of Dell drivers - issue with wireless I'll go back to.
OFFICE 2010.... that came pre-installed... (no dvd - you get a card with the keycode and a web site) Went to normal spot at MS which only had Office 365 .... Went to Dell who sent me back to MS slash Office/Backup...am downloading now...
If Office goes well then I'll probably spend the rest of the day doing Win updates. Then I'll looking into doing imaging
