    Windows Defender?

Just purchased new computer running Windows 8.1. It came pre-loaded with McAfee 30 trial which I will be uninstalling and would like to know if I need an anti virus program such as Avast or is Windows Defender which also came pre-loaded is enough to protect me. I am a senior citizen so am not engaging in a lot on risky on line behavior. Thanks.........

Windows Defender should do the job on it's own. When you uninstall Mcafee antivirus, Defender, now also called Microsoft Security Essentials, should turn itself back on automatically but if it doesn't here's a brief tutorial on how to turn it on manually.

Agree. I have been using Window Defender exclusively since I purchased this PC in December of 2011 and it has done a good job. I also regularly scan with Malwarebytes Anti-malware and between the two they keep my machine clean.
