Try:
xcopy "C:\My Documents\*.*" "F:\My Documents" /c /e /f /h /i /k /r /y
Where "C:\My Documents\*.*" is the source, and "F:\My Documents" is the destination. (If a path contains one or more spaces, enclose them in double quotes as shown).
If the files are very large, you might want to add a "/j" (unbuffered I/O).
To see what each of these /parameters mean, type:
xcopy /?
at the prompt.

ok this is working better than I expected ... I reinstalled windows 8.. and it created a new windows on my harddrive and my other working windows is now marked as windows.old .. in this .old folder is all my documents music and photos ... hooray !
Now Is it just a matter of dragging and dropping back to (current) new desktop ? as my old desktop is in there as well .. Old desktop is over 20GB in size .., my current harddrive is 240GB available out of 500GB ( 444GB) and Of course once I have all my files back in place I would like to delete windows.old... as it is probably together with new and old close to 140 GB in size ..

Yes, simply drag and drop.
(I usually use two Window Explorer windows, tiled vertically [side-by-side], old on the left, new on the right, then drag across from left to right, and working from the topmost folder down).
