Resolved [RESOLVED] 7 to 8.1 using previous backup?

Help, finally gave up on old Dell with windows 7 to new Dell with the hideous 8.1 but all my careful and regular back up don't seem to be found by 8.1?
I've tried a search on the site and it says you access it else where but I can't find it.
Is there a way I can use my backup to get all my settings into 8.1?
    Thanks,

Are you just talking about settings, or do you need to restore data, and reinstall software as well?

Do you mean you used Windows 7 Backup to create backup files and you are trying to restore them in Windows 8.1?
You could in Win8, but not anymore in 8.1. Windows 8.1 changed the backup app, so it's no longer compatible with Windows 7 backups.

If the Win7 system is still functional, you can try the Easy Transfer tool that jdc2000 suggested.

Easy transfer didn't do much either, doesn't transfer settings any more either. 8.1 is a crock.
Installing one program at a time. I see the attraction of Apple sometimes
