Resolved [RESOLVED] Despite rumors, batteries are not exhausted

The GE A1050 was an el cheapo camera, but it was all I could afford. It kept telling me that my batteries were exhausted after only a few shots, so on the advice of Photolady, I bought Eneloop rechargeable batteries and a charger, and we were happy for about 4 years. Now I'm getting the same message without taking a single shot. The contacts are not dirty. My battery tester, which I use for work and is reliable, says all my batteries are fully charged. Would it be crazy to open the camera and look for something? They're just little computers.

If you know what you're going to find and can fix it, and it's really cheap, open at your own risk. If it was me, I'd just buy another camera. But opening a camera to the environments, brings dust to the sensor and more probable you won't fix anything. Cameras are more delicate than computers.

No, I don't know what I'm going to find. But I never learned how to use most of the settings on this one, and starting to learn another one is overwhelming. For me it's like learning another OS from scratch.

Looking for camera sales now, sigh. Thanks.

    What's your budget?

Learning a new OS is not as risky as opening a digital camera either.

Not that I'm brand loyal, but I am really. I shoot Pentax, DSLRs but there are some really nice Pentax point and shoots out now. One I am considering buying for my youngest granddaughter is the Pentax Ricoh WG-20 14MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom. Cost is under $200 at Target.

No budget at all. I've been getting very little work for several years and I'm in debt. I need just a cheap point-and-shoot, rarely use it.

Perhaps a digital instamatic, like one can buy at Walmart or most pharmacy stores.

Ordered a refurb from Sears. I've been using a refurb scanner for over 10 years, and a refurb PC for 4, so I'm hopeful.
