    Printing problem

Samsung RV515 is connected to an HP Deskjet 2545, the driver is installed, the printer is recognized and set as the default and it has ink.

But of course, it doesn't print. I've been trying to print a paragraph from Word and I get extremely faint text, some of the paragraph is missing and the text looks distorted, squished vertically. I tried a couple of common fonts but the result was either worse or the same.

It's a crappy little printer but brand new and I know it can print because I got one color illustration out of it. The quality was kinda poor, as though it needed calibrating or cleaning, but since then I've only had the results described above.

I've tried removing the device (driver) and reinstalling it but no change. I don't know how to calibrate or clean it.

    Anyone?

    Thanks - rev

Did you align the print head?

Cleaned the ink cartridges, cleaned the printer, aligned the printhead.

The centered document title in a larger font is missing but first line of the paragraph is good. Then the rest of the paragraph is missing.

If it can print one line to an acceptable standard, it can't be a cleaning or alignment issue any more. What else is left, the driver?

Only way to find out if it's the driver or not, uninstall the driver, reboot the computer and then reinstall the driver. Could be just a bad printer also. Even brand new if you didn't buy it directly from HP it could be defective from sitting on the shelf or at the warehouse.

I agree. HP stuff is bad anyway, bad out of the box or shortly thereafter.

    That's why I don't buy that brand.
My sister bought a photo smart less than a year ago, then after having to buy a new laptop, the printer doesn't work even with new Windows 7 drivers.

    Reverend--
HP printers usually come with an installation CD.
Go to Start|Control Panel|Programs and Features and uninstall all items dealing with the HP Deskjet 2545.
Then reinstall the printer using the installation CD.

    Good luck.

Photolady: I wouldn't buy HP either but this belongs to someone else. People fall for the low price and then get nailed by the cost of the consumables.

Jim: Done all that but nothing changed. I'm going to concede defeat on this one - just drink the wine and walk away
