Fishy pop-up on an XP desktop

I frequently get a pop-up with a Firefox logo that says, in effect, “You are browsing with FF and your video player might be outdated.” A second popup on the same screen says*
“It is recommended thatyou update to the latest available player. Please update to continue.” **.... with an OK box and without a NoThanks box.

I can’t get back to my browsing without having to fiddle with File Manager to get rid of the pop-up and I often have to reebot.

Am I correct that the pop-up sounds fishy? If so, why does Mozilla allow such frauds!?
    *
What can I do to stop this pop-up?

Thanks for your comments. ... wdc

Is this the same system? If so, did you get rid of the Yahoo stuff first?

What url are you going to? I suspect it's your Adobe Flash plugin. If that's the case, it's not fishy. You should be updating Flash when updates come out.

    15.0.0.152 is the current version.

Could you post screenshots? I assume you are using Firefox as browser.

I thought I sent a post a few minutes ago saying I failed in downloading latest Adobe Flash Player but I don't see it here. Nevermind because a few minutes after that post my stalled installation came to life and I DID MANAGE to download a Versaiaon 15 of Adobe Flasah.

ShoUld I see it in the cP\Remove apps List? I do not see it there's. Now I Wil try to load a Yahoo-free FF?

Midknyte: I now tried to dl FF and failed. I ended up with a FF Yahoo
    Version again!

Would you please give me directions for removing the current Yahoo version and downloading a Yahoo-free version?

This is what I meant. Now you are posting across 2 different threads.

How did you remove the Yahoo version? Did you make sure to remove Yahoo toolbar if it was installed? Did you check the addons for anything Yahoo related?

As I just posted in another forum (where I strayed in reporting my problem) .... Thank you all. I <<think>> my problem is fixed. I ran a Malwarebyte scan and found tons of bad files that I quarantined. My system's performance immediately improved and I no longer get those annoying pop-ups that froze the pc.

I will certainly run Malwarebytes and my av program regularly from now on.

I appreciate all your help and especially your patience. ... wdc
