Apple Pulls New IOS - DO NOT UPDATE

Apple Inc. (AAPL -0.87%, news) pulled an update for the iPhone operating system after the new software caused some people to lose cellular service.

After rolling out the latest version of its iOS 8 mobile software earlier today, the Cupertino, California-based company withdrew the update when scores of customers experienced dropped cellular service so they couldn’t make calls. The fingerprint reading Touch ID feature also wasn’t working after the update, according to some customers.

    And now "Bendgate"?

Bendgate: Is the iPhone 6 too bendy, or are your skinny jeans just too skinny?
First there was the iPhone 4 Antennagate. Then there was the iPhone 5 Scuffgate. And now, with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, there is Bendgate.

Yes, it seems Apple’s all-aluminium design can’t withstand the truly awesome stresses of being placed in the front pocket of a pair of skinny jeans. Numerous owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are reporting that their new phones have developed a noticeable bend or kink after being placed in a pants pocket. This isn’t people sitting on their phones, either: A tight front pocket, plus the curvature of your thigh, is enough to bend the new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

If you already installed 8.0.1, you can reinstall 8.0.

Not a bright and shiny start for the new #6 phones. Really surprised about the warping...

    Right?
The stock has now lost a staggering $23 billion since the iPhone 6 was released on Sept. 19. The day’s loss in Apple stock exceeds the entire market value of more than half the individual companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index — including individual companies such as Macy’s (M) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG).

What’s different this time is that there are serious questions about Apple’s once-vaunted quality standards this time. While consumers are used to Apple not being first — for instance following other phone makers with a larger screen — they like to think of Apple’s goods as perfect out of the gate. But suggestions that the iPhone 6 Plus can be bent by hand (or in the front pocket) and widespread reports of connectivity and battery woes caused by the update to the operating system, the popular theory of Apple’s products that they “just work” is under assault.

    Strike III:

The Washington Post > Shellshock [Bash] bug could threaten millions. Compared to Heartbleed.
    September 26 at 5:25 AM

A programming flaw dubbed the “Bash Bug,” or more ominously “Shellshock,” is being described as potential threat to millions of computers, servers, medical devices, power plants and municipal water systems and even common objects such as refrigerators and cameras.

It is being compared to Heartbleed, a flaw in security software used by most of the Internet which allowed hackers to steal data such as passwords. Shellshock is similarly widespread and can be used to wreak more havoc. It allows hackers to take control of a vulnerable machine, steal data, shut down networks and cause other problems.
    ...
Bash is used in most Linux or Unix-based operating systems, including Apple’s Mac OS X
    ...
The National Institute of Standards and Technology rated Shellshock a 10 on a 10-point severity scale. Heartbleed was rated five. Both flaws were rated low in terms of complexity, which means they can be easily exploited.
    ...
Shellshock has existed for 22 years, the Times noted. It doesn’t just expose your password — hackers can exploit the flaw to hijack your computer.

Saw a video somewhere (I think from a link from Ars Technica) that compared trying to bend a 6 Plus versus a Galaxy Note 3. The Apple bent and the all plastic Samsung didn't. Hard to believe...

Long time hoaxer and charlatan Uri Geller -spoonbender and mentalist- claims the reason that the new iPhones are bending is because

the energy and excitement of the millions of consumers stirred up their mental forces causing the IPhone to bend
and of course he wants Apple to give him money to help solve the problem.

The Note 3 was the strongest of the phones tested.
