    Booting to Safe Mode

Does anyone know a reason the machine might boot to Safe Mode without any help?

I accessed a machine remotely using Teamviewer and found it in Safe Mode - so I told the dude not to reboot and this time don't press F8. He said he's never pressed F8 in his life

Is there some sort of system or BIOS error that would cause that response?

    Thanks - rev

msconfig, boot tab, Safe boot is checked. Uncheck it.

    I did not know that!

How would such a thing become checked when the user thinks the CD ROM tray is a drink holder?

No worse than try to feed a PBJ to a floppy drive.
