Windows XP and Ubuntu dual boot....

I have a netbook that was running Windows xp. I wasn't totally ready to wipe out the stuff on it, so I did a dual boot with Ubuntu. I've been using Ubuntu for a while, and it seems to be okay. It just seems to be a little sluggish and I can't open up more than a couple of things at a time. I don't expect miracles out of this older computer, but it seemed to be a little faster when it was just Windows XP. I also was able to open up more stuff before it totally slowed down. My question is this: Would this computer run better if I formatted the hard drive and just put Ubuntu on it? Thanks!

Unless you're running Ubuntu on a tiny partition smaller than what it would need for typical use I can't see having XP on another partition would make any difference at all. Official Ubuntu requirements suggest 5 Gigs minimum for a desktop install but I'd at least double or triple that for media storage and additional programs you may want to add.

I did the recommended 10 gb. I only use this computer for surfing the internet. I don't have a lot of stuff on winxp because I had formatted it not too long before installing Ubuntu. I guess it's just time for a faster computer. Thanks for the response!

There are smaller versions of Linux that run much, much faster than that Ubuntu garbage,

Mint 17 would even be a better choice. MX-14 is a good choice http://www.mepiscommunity.org/mx

Play around with the bootable cd/ USB sticks until you find something that works for you.
