Motherboard bad on two year old Dell laptop?

Two years ago today I bought my laptop. Today I was reading email when the video went out. The screen is still lit up but no desktop or icons. I tried to boot to a linux CD but no luck. I now suspect the video portion of the motherboard has gone out. It is a Dell model N4110 service tag 1Q4GRS1.

    What do you think?

    Did you:

Press the "FN" and "F8" keys at the same time to switch the display to the external monitor. Press the keys together a second time to show your computer display on the external monitor and the laptop's LCD screen at the same time.
