Windows Xp cannot see dvd/cd drive until I reboot .

Been having this problem for a few weeks to a month or more now .. when I reboot PC I have no problem in seeing both my drives in explorer ( and if I start up any of my players such as powerdvd/ windows media player / quicktime etc ... .. BUT after a day or more It won;t see the drive any more unless I reboot ..
now I have tried to uninstall reinstall but you still have to reboot to get it to find the drive after the cycle .. so regardless I would still have to reboot system .

There Has to BE something ,somewhere.. that is not switched on or switched off for that matter ... .. Even if and when I save to restore and save the PC when it is running good.. it would still have to be rebooted ... registry Hack? maybe? I have some various programs such as error end .. or Ausololgics rescue both work wonderful.. but day later still can't find these drives ..... have also tried sfc /scannow no success ....

Why I shutdown when not using the computer, to prevent that from happening and is cheaper for the electric bill.

I leave PC running all the time.. it takes up to 3 minutes for PC to ' log in and await instructions...

3 minutes, best go into msconfig and uncheck a bunch of unneeded programs.

This will help ID the cryptic words in mscinfig.

check scheduler too. I find a lot of Name brand builder junk there to.

3 minutes remind me of a AMD K2- 380 cpu and a 3800 rpm hdd boot up times.

none of these suggestions have helped out with my problem .., but have discovered something new ..: when The PC can't see the drives to boot up the dvd .. I found out I don't have to shut down and restart PC I just have to Log off ... then Log back in.. this clears the cache that is preventing the PC from finding and playing back.. ( finding really is all it has to do) .. the DVD or any type of CD in either of my dvdrom drives ( I have two.) ........

Haven'y given up on this problem finding quest .. but have soem additional information which just adds more fuel to the fire of my problem ... I found out this:

When I can't see the dvdrom drive when I am logged into one of my two log in members ( my wife and I with our windows XP pro .. and keep in mind all functions of my PC windows work wonderful .. ).. I have discovered If I close off my login and go into my wife's up and runnning 'log in page' already up and running .,( we are usually both logged in so we can just switch between players ) I see that her explore settings does show the dvdrom where I just couldn't seconds before.. So I would log her off.. and without rebooting the PC as I had initially stated in the first post above .., Now I can see the dvdrom drive and away I go with my missikon of the day .,, BUT after all these months i still have this problem where If I leave the PC running for a few days., my log in fails to see .. and her log in does see. we are both assigned as computer administrators in the users area of control panel...

Same problem I run into with leaving XP on 24/7, so I got to shutting down for the night. After seeing the difference on the electric bill, I shutdown and enjoy the difference in Restaurants.

I would really like to get his problem fixed ... Scenario:

After a good clean reboot my PC runs fine .. Malbytes can and does detect ( if any) malware .. / My formatted HD's are monthly scandisks and defragged . half are IDE and the other is on Sata cables .. / my virus program (avg 2015 -paid version) says all is good and in the green/ my google chrome browser works instantaneously../ emails / and windows programs all work and open when they are requested .

I get no blue screens at all ( maybe one in 6 months ).., the keyboard never hardly freezes up and is always available even if I have to use alt/control/delete .. the PC works faster than my windows 8 laptop model nearby ..

But MY main problem is- every other day My windows XP PRO can not detect either of my two DVDrom drives- BUT only when I am logged in as me ., IOW.. if I log off and log into my second user (wife)., her explore (left click start button) shows what is sitting in either of those dvdrom rom trays and of course will activate what is in the tray whether it is a cd or dvd or data disc .. and it will work..

I on the othe hand have to shut down or close that open user ( wife) and- then -reboot PC and voila! PC on both users can now 'see' that dvdrom drive ., of which I have two: one is dvdrom/ and the other is BD dvdrom ..
Both the dvdrom LG players are relatively new and I feel there is no sense in either physically removing the drives and rebooting ..,,, or manually thur device manager remove the dvdroms as 'they do work' under my other user settings or Log In ..

There has to be a relatively simple solution in fixing this problem... Registry Hack? /// or how about if I remove the two dvdrom drives - restart/ shut down / and set them back on opposite IDE cables .. They are presently sitting at the I and J extension names as my 3 installed HD drives-partitioned are C/D/E/F/G/H and my external HD on a mini jack is sitting at J ... MY PC is Windows XP Professional SP3/ 4 GB Memory/ AMD Radeon HD 7700 series Video Card/2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core.

    thanks

Have you shared the devices. Thinking back about 10 -12 years ago I had to do something like that so my 2 dvd roms would work when using switch users. But exactly how, I do not remember.
