[RESOLVED] How To Obtain Access to Program Files in Win 8.1 ?
How can I install a shortcut icon of the "Program Files" in the desktop task bar of win8.1? A website query mentioned a way for Win 8, by creating a folder of "%Programdata%Microsoft\Windows\Startmenu\Programs".. Apparently, It won't work for 8.1 as I get a message stating that the path does not exist & to try again. Any ideas or suggestions on this .. Thanks much ..............

"%Programdata%Microsoft\Windows\Startmenu\Programs"
Your path is a little off. This is what I see:
"%Programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
%Programdata% = C:\ProgramData

Programdata and Programs are two different things. What are you trying to do?

I got that info from a query on the web. All I know is that someone had requested the same question as I had & they got this result. I tried it & of course, it didn't work. I queried the web again & found a remedy for "Program Files" but not " Program files(x86)"
What I am trying to do is to put both file folders as shortcuts to same in the desktop Task bar . I now have one but not the other...............

How can I install a shortcut icon of the "Program Files" in the desktop task bar of win8.1?
So you want to "pin" a shortcut of Program Files and Program Files (x86) on the taskbar?

What version of Win8.1 are you using, 32 or 64 bit? If it's 32-bit, there is only Program Files. 64-bit has both the regular and x86 folders.

Thanks Midknyte; I have the 64 bit vers. I now have both in task bar. My problem was I was using the wrong parameters to find the x86 folder.
