SuperAntiSpyware--Fraud!
A few years back I bought and paid for the professional version of SAS with life time definition updates. The free life time updates is one of the main reasons I bought it--besides being a good program too. For the past year I noticed that I was no longer getting any definition updates. When I happen to mention that I was running SAS the last time I was on this site, someone told me that another company had bought them out and that since then the company had not been doing anything about keeping SAS updated. I was advised to uninstall SAS and buy Malwarebytes instead. I hated to do this since I had paid for it and figured even if it was not up todate at least it would catch anything that it already had the definitions for. Imagine my surprise yesterday when I happen to be standing by my husband when he was on his computer and I saw his SAS notifying him that it had just updated his definitions. I gasped and asked him how he was able to get updates for his SAS and I could not get updates for mine. He said because he paid for his. I told him I had also paid for mine too. He said, "but you paid for life time updates and I paid for the version where you have to pay yearly for the updates." I am furious. This sounds a lot like fraud to me--to be promised a life time of updates if you bought their professional version and then started to only give definition updates to people paying a yearly fee for the updates. I can't tell you how angry I am! There should be something that I can do about this. Report them to the Better Business Bureau maybe? Just does not make sense to me how they can legally get away with this!
Anyone else discovered what I discovered about this? If so, can anyone make a suggestion about what might could be done. I just hate to see a company get away with something like this.

Uninstall, reboot, then reinstall and see what happens. Do not forget your key.
NOTE:Just thought of something, overinstall the updated version and see if that works. Had that happen where it would need a manual update over the older version because of the upgrade of a program.
Anyway what I would try.

Train: Not sure I understand what you mean by:
overinstall the updated version
How can I overinstall an updated version when my SAS has not updated in forever? What updated version are you referring to? Do you mean that instead of uninstalling the SAS I have now, just install over the top of the version I now I have. I probably still have the original download exe in my download folder because I hardly ever delete anything from my download folder just in case I ever need to reinstall a program.
Sorry for my confusion.

Yes, I would try it. had the same happen with Malwarebytes several times.
But you need to get the new updated, download from their site.

Train: It is after 11 PM here in Georgia and I have a 5 year old and a 7 year old great-grandchild staying with me for a week & I really need to get them ready for bed. I will have to come back here tomorrow. In the meantime before I come back, I will try what you said and the post back afterwards.
Thanks,
Sheila

To all concerned: I am on a borrowed PC to get back here today. I decided to do a very thorough & in-depth security check on my PC. So yesterday morn I took my PC to Housecall and had that site to scan my PC & it has been running a scan on my computer now for over 24 hours. You have to understand that I have 4 HD and each one of them is one T. in size--thus, why it is taking so long to check everything. The scan is now at 52 percent, so it sounds as if it is going to take at least another 24 hours to complete.
As soon as it is through, I will check back in here with the results.
Thank you for your patience,
Sheila

Hay there,,,
wow ... is it still scanning? ha ha
I have SAS lifetime I spent a whopping 19.95 for it 2/19/09
It seems to update fine.
I just want to add here that I feel embarrassed that I still expect that Company to keep the software up to date after 5 years,,,, but with that being said,,, I would be screaming also if it stopped working on me,,,, ha ha
It works great,,, and has helped me in certain conditions right along with Malware Bytes and is a great tool!

billman: It took HouseCall 3 days to scan all 4 of my hard drives--running 24 hours a day. To make a long story short, after I finished the scan I accidentally lost the results before I could tell it to fix all the problems. Had numerous infections according to HouseCall. So instead of running another 3 day scan per HouseCall, I came back here and applied to Intensive Care and Broni helped clean my PC.
Between all the multiple scanning I had to do, and between having two rambunctious young grandchildren staying with me, I just forgot about doing anything else with SAS. But my plan is to uninstall it, go to SAS website, download a fresh copy of SAS and then use the Key I had from the original copy and see if I can use it to unlock the fresh copy.
Still have a lot going on for me right now so it will be a little while before I can do all this. If it does not work then I am going to be doing a lot of emailing to the company of SAS!
