Wink Nice Improvements to Windows 8 Modern User Interface

After much difficulty and a couple of tries I managed to get Windows Update KB2919355 installed on my rig. I had no idea what it was but after a couple of reboots and what seemed like an eternity with the "Please wait . . ." screen displaying I was pleasantly surprised to find some major changes to the Start screen and Windows 8 apps:
A shut down and search icon has been added to the Start screen:

When one clicks on the shutdown icon, a drop down menu appears:

This simplifies the multiple step process previously required to shut off one's machine.
The way modern interface apps close has also been changed. Previously when the pointer was placed at the top of the app a hand would appear and then the app had to be dragged to the bottom of the screen to close it. Now we have a bar like one in a desktop window with an "X" to close the app and a "-" to minimize it. The Bing Maps app is shown as example:

Clicking on the minimize symbol takes one to the desktop with the icon displaying just like a desktop app:

There are also improvements to the Modern UI Internet Explorer in the way open tabs display which is a huge improvement as well:

Windows 8 is starting to behave and look more and more like Windows 7

I'm sticking with Windows 7 but thanks for the interesting Post. I notice on the Shutdown Menu Hibernate isn't offered, is there another way to get it or has it been eliminated.

Yes, the hibernate option can be added to the menu:

The improvements W 8 Update are good. I actually like them. Very Handy comes that the taskbar is now visible on the start, so one can switch between apps and desktop applications. Why couldn't MS do this from beginning? They must have thought that EVERYBODY uses touch screens, tablets and so on, which is not the case anyways. The large majority is still using the PC and mouse.

However, the last update still has not resolved my issue with Credential Manager, which I had hoped for (and still cannot figure out).

Agree, and I like how at boot it goes to the desktop.

Agree also, but MS wanted a one size fits all operating system interface and found out from all the negative feedback that it didn't work for many end users like you and me.
