    TreeSize Free

I think the free version of TreeSize Free does not allow you to send a copy of a scan to another person via email; and that to do so requires one of the for-fee versions. Have I read that correctly?

Are there other free free-space scanners out there that do allow emailing scan results? Thanks. ...wdc

Moving to General from XP, since this is an application question.

Reporting is one of the selling points for TreeSize Pro, but you can PRINT from the Free version.

Did you try printing to a text file as suggested in this thread? Look at jdc2000's link in post #5

Midknyte: I'm afraid I don't get your response; it seems to answer a question I did not (mean to) ask.

My question is about how (if at all) I can make a digital copy of the results of a TreeSize Free scan, a copy that I could then attach to an email. Is that possible? How?.... wdc

Yes, you can print the report to a file.

a copy that I could then attach to an email. Is that possible? How?
After you create the file, you can attach and email it.

If you install the Generic Text Only printer driver and set it to print to File, you can create the text file list you are looking for. That can then be e-mailed.

jdc2000: Thanks for your so-clear instructions. I <thought> I had no trouble with them. But, after following them, ... when I tried to print to file a listing of files generated by a TreeSave Free scan, I never got to a screen that asked me to name the file --- or any indication that the operation completed.

When I went to Start\Cp\Printers and highlighted Generic Text printer I saw that my file was there, waiting to be executed.

Can you spot what I may have done wrong? Thank you. wdc

I would delete the generic printer and try again.

Once installed from TreeSize, file - print report, from the print box make sure the generic printer is selected then click ok, type the file name in the box that pops up eg "Report.txt", then click ok.

By default the file seems to be saved in the folder that Treesize is installed to.

You could also install a PDF printer driver such as

    http://www.nitropdf.com/pdf-reader/features#creation

    http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/writer.asp

You can select from any program that has a print menu, the virtual pdf printer and "print" to it creating a pdf file.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

My guess is that your previous installation of the Generic Text Only printer driver did not have its output set to File. When installing the printer, when asked to select the Port that the printer is to use, make sure to select File.
