New Malwarebytes 2.00.0.1000 found Trojan
4/1/14 I just downloaded the new interface of Malwarebytes and did an update and scan. It found this trojan.fakeAV and it shows in the AppData folder is where it resides and is called Toolbar AcceptRate.exe
So what is this and why did it come in from a antispyware company?
BTW. Just did three computers in the past 1/2 hour and the same thing came up on all three. I got the program from FileHippo.
Note: My questions may be to help others
Thanks, JB

I haven't used Filehippo too recently but if you needed to download the program(s) with a downloader exe then that's probably where the adware came from. I now always make a point of getting software directly from the manuf own website. More and more software distro sites use downloaders these days and pretty much all have adware or toolbars included.

NO it came directly and not a Manager. The download was called: mbam-setup-2.0.0.1000.exe and this is the same name of the file thru download.cnet.com and Major Geeks calls it mbam-setup-majorgeeks-2.00.0.1000.exe so maybe they have a download mgr.
Another company calls it: mbam-setup-techspot-2.00.0.1000.exe
So how about that trojan.fakeAV?
Three computers did not have this on them before the install I can guarantee it. Heck, try it yourself. Malwarebytes has a new interface as you will see.

I updated Malwarebytes on my main PC and my laptop downloading one update directly from Malwarebytes and the other from Filehippo. After confirming they were both the same install file I upgraded and then did a scan. Neither found that problem.
Was there any program or addon or extension in common added recently to all of those computers? Or even not so recently?

Why i almost always use Broni's link here.
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d-4-28-2013%29
Plus there are changes in what to do and he lists them.
or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/down...-anti-malware/
and https://www.malwarebytes.org/
The rest seem to want to add garbage.

Malwarebytes download instructions:
- Go to malwarebytes.org

If you download MBAM from my direct link here: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d-4-28-2013%29 it'll download straight away without any risk of going to some other site.
Then it's always a good idea to always download from the source not from 3rd party sites.

SpywareDr--
your link above is to http://www.malwareebytes.org/
I always update MBAM by opening the app already on my PC and then opening the Update tab.

Your link does not go to that screen with the orange button.

Your link downloads it right from http://discussions.virtualdr.com so how is this a direct link without a 3rd part site. http://discussions.virtualdr.com is a 3rd party site or 2nd party.

https://www.malwarebytes.org/ is the 1st party and other sites are the 2nd party the way I look at it. I don't get the 3rd party term. Yes I know that if you get software from download.com that sometimes you end up with Conduit. Maybe next time I will try going to https://www.malwarebytes.org/ and do the download instead.
BTW: These 3 computers I put it on had fresh installs of Windows.

Why not use one of the 3 FREE AntiVirus programs that Consumer Reports (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm) magazine recommends in it's June 2013 issue? The back issue is available for FREE at your local library. Otherwise the nominal cost is ~$30/year and worth every cent of it! From automobiles to zucchini CR buy's off-the shelf, test/evaluates and reports what it finds.
