Play DVDs and Blu-ray on Windows 8

    Hi everyone,

I watch several movies either I rent or buy them and I need to know what you are doing to watch movies on Windows 8. I cannot seem to watch any DVD or Blu ray movies and I'm trying to look for solutions so I'm hoping you can give me some ideas.

I have done a search and found this page, that mentions Microsoft made the decision to remove DVD playback, and forego the inclusion of Blu-ray playback. Right now I'm looking for third party software or low cost solutions. My computer from Dell came preloaded with the CyberLink PowerDVD software. However, the version that I have does not support Blu-ray 3D playback and 2D to 3D conversion feature unless I upgrade. The upgrade version right now is on sale $39.95 until April 7th. What are you doing to play DVDs and Blu-ray movies on your computer?

VLC for DVDs. There is a way to get BluRay support, but I haven't tried it.

I'm not sure about the 3D support either.

To play DVD's I use KM Player which plays everything perfectly: http://www.kmplayer.com/
Also Windows Media Center will play DVD's but it is no longer free. It was free when Windows 8 came out initially but now one has to pay for a license. I do not have any blu-ray products so I can't speak for that format.

    According to this: http://www.hecticgeek.com/2012/07/km...ome-page-more/
. . . the latest version of KM Player does support Blu-ray. From my reading, Windows Media Center does not.
