[RESOLVED] USB 3.0 problem
Tearing hair out time yet again.
I had problems witha USB 3.0/USB 2.0 Card Reader front panel extension (ICY Box) and a Trancend USB 3 back panel internal
Sent them back, got a replacement, and I got an ASUS U3S6 card to replace the Trancend
The Asus came first, doddle to install, working fine. An ASUS P8Z68 motherboard by the way
Then the ICY Box replacement. Usual instal thing, nothing working, part working three quarters working....then
But no. The USB 3, when I put a USB 3 flash drive in does just that. Flashes twice and nothing.
But the USB 3 on the ASUS card have stopped working too. Same there. flashes twice and nothing.
I at first thought it was because I'd attached the 2 sata on the card to other things, but took them off and still the same
Anyone have an idea ?
Its a toughie this one.
I, needless to say, haven't a clue......
Windows 8.1
i5 2500k
16gb memory 5 hard drives (yes, 5 - maybe I should take a couple out)
And the motherboard is the Asus P8Z68 V Gen 3

First thing I'd try is deleting/disabling everything "USB" in Device Manager and then rebooting. Windows will then go through it's "Found new hardware" routine and get everything set back up ... hopefully correctly.

Will do - about to go down for tea (you'd call it dinner over there, I'd suppose) - good time to do just that !
Addendum:
Do you realize how wonderful you are, dear sir ? - Yep, BOTH are working now, although I had doubts as the PC froze while I was uninstalling the usb articles in Device Manager and I had to use the power button to close it and reboot. But - on restart everything worked as it should ! Cheers mate !

Sadly, it ISN'T resolved.
The first time I used the USB 3.0 (and every time since, getting less time every attempt) I started to move items to a stick, and it just stopped, and the thing closed, not to work again - I tried the same trick, same end product. Done again this morning with a USB 2.0 stick in the USB 3 slot, to see if it's USB 3 sticks where the problem is - it was there in Explorer, I started transferring stuff, and it closed and disappeared IMMEDIATELY.
We're on the right track but I need it to STAY there not disappear as soon as I use it, obviously !

In Windows, click on Start > Control Panel (or Start > Settings > Control Panel).
Double-click on System, then open the Hardware tab.
Click Device Manager.
Click the + at Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Right-click USB Root Hub and select Properties.
Open the Power Management tab.
Clear the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click OK.
Repeat this procedure for the USB 2.0 and 3.0 Hub.
reboot after adjusting and that noise should stop.
Win 8 , should be fairly close to XP instruction.

Thanks, Train.
What I ended up doing was replacing the problematic parts and I got everything to where it SHOULD have been !
(Sorry about delay)
