    avi reading error

    Hi there,

I have a DVD with about 15 avi files on it, all part of a TV series.

Unfortunately, one of them gets to about 50% and freezes, in fact, it crashes the computer. What is the best way to fix it, if it is possible?

have tried VLC but stops at the error, Virtual DUB mode does not even read the file. Is there any remedy?

    Thank

    Rex

Bad burn, corrupt files, dirty/scratched DVD?

Does that DVD also crash/hang another computer?

Can you reburn the original files to a new DVD and try it?

No scratches, burnt once and three months later (yesterday) second play. Bad burn, possibly; corrupt files, almost definitely.

Same thing on another computer, same file will not get beyond 50%.

Unfortunately, once I had the files on the HDD and had checked them at various places and they were OK, I burnt them. Then checked various files on the DVD and at various places and all was hunky dory so deleted for HDD. Two months since, there are probably lots of overwrites. Will have to find the originals again; so annoying for just one fiie.

    Yep, been there.

I know you know, but it bears repeating: If it's important to you, keep more than one copy.

It's not important since it is just one episode of a BBC TV comedy; just annoying. Of course, if I had made a second DVD, there is a good chance that it would have the same fault!
