How Do I Rip a DVD to My Computer for Playback?

I have a couple instructional DVD's that I want to copy onto my computer. I want to be able to save then into a folder, so that I will be able to play them off the hardrive without the DVD's. I have searched and am unable to find a simple answer. I have tried Ripping the DVD's to a folder with DVD Decrypter and it seemed to work. They are not encripted DVD's. But I end up with several files that will not play. They are *.BUP, *.IFO, *.VOB.

I also have Super@ on my computer, but can not figure out how to use it to do what I want.

Is there a simple way to copy a DVD to my computer, for playback?

Seems to be such a simple thing to do.

You probably want to be able to rip the dvd to a standalone video file such as .mov or .mp4

    Have a look at http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...dvd-ripper.htm

However you should check the laws in your country as some dvd rippers break encryption on dvds which may make using or perhaps even having the software a felony.

The .VOB file in your folder cant work? It is a playable video file format.

AppGeeker DVD Ripper used to be one software that can convert DVDs to almost every video format (avi, mp4, wmv, mpeg, etc.) on your hard drive.

Not sure if it is what you are looking for, but it is worth giving a shot.

I downloaded and tried DVD Ripper. It does exactly what I want. Unfortunately it is a trial version. Only does 5 minutes of video. The cost of the paid version is 33.00 which is a little high for my one time use.

Freeware that functions like that would be perfect.

I can not get the .VOB files to play in Windows Media Player.

Thank you Photolady. I will go there and see what I can find out. I apologize if I have ventured into unwanted territory. I truly did not think I was asking for something that is not allowed. My only reason for the copy is that I often need the contents of the DVD while I am at work with my computer and the DVD is left at home. The DVD's I am working with are instructions for my sewing machine. I have never sewed before, so I am easily confused.

Not that it matters why I want to do what I want, just thought a little explanation was in order.

Well, you're welcome for the link. I use them and am a member over there. However, here, any time you ask about ripping or copying a commercial dvd or cd, no matter what content is on it, it's still illegal. Remember you are not buying a commercial cd/dvd, but only renting the right to watch it.
