[RESOLVED] simulate windows 8 like windows 7
Is there anyway to make a windows 8 machine boots up and looks like a Windows 7 one. I mean that it has a windows 7 desktop, start button, shut down, all programs etc?

You need a third party tool for now. 8.1 will allow you to boot to Desktop mode, but the Start button isn't like in 7.

Under Utilities, bottom one, "Classic Start". Will do everything you want and the Start button IS like previous versions of Windows. In fact, you can make the Start menu look like it did in Windows 95 and 98, Windows XP style or Windows 7 take your pick. Choose only that one download . . . you can ignore the rest if you wish.

Thanks for all your replies. Jseidel, I installed the "Classic Start". It is great. Now my computer looks like Win7.

Great. Glad this worked for you. Classic Start allows you to have a complete Windows 7 look or just the portions that you like. Nice little utility.

Actually, that's Classic Shell. You don't need ninite to install it.
