""Try this----press control+alt+delete
enter new task(run)
type explorer.exe there.."
This did not work either.
But I found an interesting fact.
When I put jpg. in the search box it brings up photos
that were on my computer so I know it is there but
I am unable to make it show on the desktop.
Any help is welcome.

My trick now would be to pull the hdd, slave it into another computer, save what I can.
DBAN that drive and start from scratch. But I did buy my Win 7 DVD so I could do that if bad came to worse..

The support people that sold me the computer could not understand what was
wrong or how to fix it. Finally I went to Microsoft and paid $106 for their support.
They took over my computer and opened a file called "windows.old" then starting
putting files on my desktop from this folder. However they said I must install all
my programs manually..They said the image saved in win 7 prof will not install
my old programs. Only a few of my pictures were installed. This was not a
real restore. I am not sure what they did.
If an image cannot restore the entire computer why bother to make an image
of your computer. This was in win 7 prof. Are there any programs you can
buy that will restore an computer to that state it was in and put everything
back? If so what are they?
I am slowly getting back to normal. I have just one problem. I installed
PCI serial port and need a driver for Win 7. Where can I download it.
I had to do a clean install then rebuild everything and download a
boat load of updates. I don't know what good image files are?

Windows 7 Backup is not an "Image" backup. An Image backup is a bit by bit identical copy of the entire hard drive. Acronis True Image is highly recommended by many people. If one of your hard drives is a Maxtor or Seagate you can use Seagate Disk Wizard which if free, and for Image backups is identical to Acronis. I've used it for many years. It's easy to use and has saved me many times. If you had an Image backup you would have saved a lot of time, agravation and $106.

Frys has Acronis True Image 2013 on sale for $14.99 after rebate. I will run to get it. I was under the impression win 7 Prof was an image
backup. Exactly what is it. It did save some of my pictures.
How does it work. What does it save?
Is it difficult to use Acronis True Image 2013. How is it done,

After creating your Image backup be sure to run "Validate". Can you imagine thinking you have an Image backup, then needing it and find that it's corrupt?

"Windows 7 Backup is not an "Image" backup" (See Post #25.)
Hmm. I always thought that if I clicked "Create a System Image" on the first window of Backup and Restore, I would get a System Image.

I have never used the Windows 7 backup as I've always used Seagate Disk Wizard but I thought I had read where it didn't make a bit for bit identical copy of the drive. I just did some research and you may very well be right, but, while researching I found many instances of people having errors and trouble with it and it was slower and more difficult to use than Acronis. Sorry for the bum info but I still think Acronis is the way to go.

So Win 7 prof backup is not much use. Microsoft sure doesn't
tell you that.
I am looking for a driver for a PCI serial port that I installed
on my win 7 computer.Where can I download it?
That is the only thing I am missing.
