This is what shows in Device Manager:
Other Devices
PCI Serial Port
Ports(COM & LPT
Communications Port (COM 1)
Communications Port (COM 2)
OX16PC95x PCI Parallel port (Windows XP) (LPT3)
When I bought this computer I thought I had a Serial Port installed because I had
a PCI Parallel port installed. When I saw PCI Serial Port under other devices not
installed I thought I had a PCI Serial Port. But the serial port came installed on the
computer and is working. Communications Port (COM 1) and Communications Port (COM 2) are is off a serial port? right
So what is the PCI Serial Port under Other Devices. I am a loss as to what is wrong.
ALSO windows updates tried to install an update for my 20" Acer LCD monitor and
said the update failed. I keep getting messages my Monitor display has something
wrong. I think I am running on a generic driver. How do I fix this?

I am trying to install a ACER S20 1hl driver for my monitor. I found several drivers
on Google but everytime I try to install the driver the site tries to install everything
except the correct driver. Where can I find a decent site to install this driver?

Did you go to the ACER site? You need to extract the files, then choose the .inf file from Device Manager.

What I found in the Network box is one entry:
"Realrek RTL8183E/RT810E Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS6.2)
Does this have anything to do with a driver for my Ace Monitor.
In trying to download a driver I got into some sites that put the following
on my computer:
DRIVER MENDER, 24x7 HELP, OPTMIZE YOUR PC. These programs are
showing on my Desktop. I think they are all junk trying to put Malware
on my computer. Before I uninstall them am I right.
Where can I find a good site to download an ACER S201HL driver.
The sites I found in Google put the junk on my PC but did not get me
a driver.

I went to the acer site and downloaded the driver. When I try to install
it I get a message the best driver is installed. The driver listed is:
Gereric non-PnP Monitor. Why is this happening. How do I fix it.

Apparently you don't have a driver problem.
I keep getting messages my Monitor display has something
wrong.
What is the Monitor doing or not doing that isn't right?
What is the exact error message?

You need to override the driver at that point. You need to browse for the driver manually. Then choose Let me pick from a list of device drivers. Choose your monitor model.
Please answer dneilson's questions as well. What is the actual problem?

How is the presence of a Parallel Port any indication that a Serial Port is installed? They are not related.

So, is the Serial Port working or not? How can it be "not installed" but "is working"? How many entries of Serial Port you have in Device Manager? Why don't you post a screen shot of the DM?
Do you even need serial ports? There are very few devices that use serial port any more. If you don't need any serial port, just yank the PCI card out and be done with it.
Generally, you don't need to install any specific monitor driver. Windows should have the driver for most monitors. Usually it is the driver for the specific graphic processor that you should worry about. So what is the error message?

JERRY - maybe we should close this thread and ask you to start over... You're asking about several different issues at one time.
1. Do you have an issue with your monitor? If not - skip it.
2. What exactly do you want to plug into the PCI serial card you have? There are very few devices that use serial ports these days.
3. Did you ever get out of Safemode?
We don't say this often - but maybe taking your computer to Best Buy - Geek Squad would be something you should consider. Getting some "hands on" assistance can be worth its weight in gold

The monitor issue is I keep getting warnings:
"THE STATUS OF THE MONITOR HAS SHUT DOWN"
and because I have a generic driver installed and cannot install
the driver meant for my Acer Monitor I am wondering what is
wrong.
YES I did get out of safemode by doing a clean install of Win 7 Prof
and that's probably why I am missing drivers.

"THE STATUS OF THE MONITOR HAS SHUT DOWN"
Jerry,
That message does not make much sense. Are you sure that it is an EXACT quote of what it says? Can you tell if it is being generated by Windows (or a Windows application), or is it being generated by the monitor itself? What happens when you get this message? Can you still use the computer, or is your monitor blank except for this message? An exact model number for the monitor would also be useful.

I am saying this with the very best intention in my mind and w/o an ounce of meanness. Jerry, it would go a long way toward helping you to solve your computer problems if you would:
- Answer questions we ask you.
E.g., In post #38, you were asked to find the FCC ID on the PCI card so we could help you to locate the driver but you never did reply to that.
- Follow all the instructions / suggestions given to you AND post back the results.
E.g., when you said you couldn’t get out of the Safe Mode, SpywareDr’s response in post #11 sounded very likely to be the cure and had it worked you wouldn’t have to go through the whole restore process. But you didn’t respond to the post at all.
- Record and report all error messages exactly as they are.
E.g., in post #8,
"if safemode will not close and regular windows will not start means windows has something wrong with it."
and in post #57
"THE STATUS OF THE MONITOR HAS SHUT DOWN"
These “messages” just don’t look right and I doubt that they are the exact messages as they appear on the screen.
- Explain the problem in detail and clearly.
E.g., Simply saying the monitor has problems doesn't help us to help you. What is it doing or not doing? Is it blank? Off color? Flickers? Doesn't turn on?
- Deal with one issue alone before moving onto to next instead of presenting every single issue all at the same time.
So far you have listed issues with files not showing up after the restore which we are not clear whether it is resolved or not; Serial Port problem that may or may not exist; and monitor problem which we are not clear as to what exactly the problem is.
