    Installing to a VM

    Hi there,

About a year ago, I installed Oracle VM VirtualBox with a 10gb disk size, to play with new software. One of those 'playing software' was PhotoShop CS5 and I found that I don't like it.

I now want to trial CS6, so having uninstalled CS5 and some other, superfluous software, I am trying to install CS6. But I constantly hit a 'not sufficient space' message. Checking the VM properties, there is only 5% available, whiich would explain the message.

But having removed CS5 and other software, surely there would be more than sufficient space to install CS6?

    Grateful for any suggestions.

    Thanks

    Rex

I learned the hard way and maxed out the drive size... It killed the VM.

Have since started using the let it grow as needed type option... I looked in mine just now and don't see an option to expand the drive space...BUT, you could look in the help file.

You'll probably have to try and remove as much as possible to free up some space.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Thanks. That is what I have managed to do.

Got rid of some other programs that had started as 'let's see if I like them' and they have overstayed their welcome. Managed to get about 2.5gb of free space and CS6 installed, albeit slowly. Now to play and see if I like it enough to fork out for an upgrade.

You should set a high max drive size initially. The VM file itself should only expand when you add data. I think you can set a static drive size, otherwise it would balloon until it hits the max size cap.

Don't recall what I did when I installed the VM but think I set a size of 10gb.

May be if I have the time and inclination, I will uninstall and reinstall. I only ever intended to test one or two programs at a time. If I like it, it would be uninstalled and put onto the main computer.

Which Windows OS? Both 7 and 8 need 16 GB for 32-bit and 20 GB for 64-bit.

XP should fit with no problem. Must be something else.
