[RESOLVED] Resolution changes on screen for unknown reason

Hi All,
I wonder if some kind person is able to help me with this problem. It can happen at any time. I have taken my computer out of standby to find the resolution has changed. Today it has happened while I am using my Genealogy program and also IE.9. Everything goes dark for a second and a warning sound and the size of everything has doubled at least. Most annoying. This morning I recovered my computer to get it right. The 2nd time I went into NVDIA Control Panel and reset default. How do I lock it in please

Have you updated the Nvidia drivers lately?

Unless they come in with Windows Update no I don't think I have should I do so?

They should stay locked in. If they are changing to default settings, it could indicate a possible hardware issue. Make sure that all fans are running and there is no dust buildup affecting cooling. You could use some software like SpeedFan to check the fans and temperatures. What video card are you using (or motherboard/system model if onboard video)?

If you have a video card, pull it and make sure the air passages are clean.

I use something like q-tips and 90+% alcohol to clean the fan blades.

Never a good sign when audible warning sounds.
State source of audible warning
and
Minimize use of system until source of warning is identified and corrected.

If/when mobo emits warning beeps, it is typically associated with overheating component.

Hi jdc2000 I use the default settings for the NVDIA settings and it moves away from these. If its a overheating problem I would be surprised as it sits on a cooling pad with 3 fans but I will definately go ahead and give everything a good clean and see if it happens again. Thank you

Hi Shinma. I have no idea what the source of the warning is. Its just a windows ding. It hasn't happened in the past few hours so hopefully the cleaning of the fans will fix the problem
