I still think you may have a hard drive problem. You could also check the motherboard for leaking or bulging capacitors. A hard drive diagnostic should really be the next step though.

Yesterday, I decided to create another user account and logged off mine and went into the new account. In there, everything is working fine. I can even get the solitare game to work normally. I thought I'd share this with all of you in case this could tell you something about what's going on with my computer.

I need help right a way. I ran the harddrive disk and I am sitting here with the results page up. I am on my other computer so I can report this to you. It says: one or more corrupted sectors found. For sector repairing DFT offers two different functions 1) Erase disk, entire disk will be rewritten. 2) Sector repair, corrupted sectors are rewritten. NOTE: Erase disk will DELETE ALL the data on the disk drive....Sector repair will cause data loss in the repaired file, refer to user guide for more information. What should I do? I am already backed up so I will not lose any files etc. If the erase disk is what I should do, does it erase the operating system only or does it erase the formatting too? Would I then put my windows 7 disk in to reinstall? Please help me and explain what I should do from here.

As I suspected, that drive has problems. You could try the sector repair option, and, as stated, you will lose data in any affected files. The files affected may or may not be reported, so you may not know which files you should restore from backup. If it were my computer, I would just buy a new drive, and then reinstall Windows and restore my data.

Is it easy to install a harddrive? Do I just replace it with the same one that's in there?

Hard drive replacement is usually easy. You may not be able to get the exact same model that you have now, but you should be able to get a 500 GB hard drive that will work with no problems. Check NewEgg.com for reviews and prices of the currently available drives.

I had a new hard drive installed today and then installed my windows 7 upgrade disk but windows will not activate with the product key. I get an error "0xC004F061. I tried it a few times more and it states that it's locked. Help!
