wall paper turns black, icons and task bar missing
My friend called yesterday that her laptop screen suddenly turns black. Pressing any key only brings the screen back with grey and some backlight. Icons, mouse pointer and the task bar did not show up. Pressing the the start key on the keyboard did not make any thing happen.
I went to see and reboot the computer by holding down the power button more than 4 sec. The laptop restarts and wall paper, icons etc all come back. It looks the the laptop resume normal. As she only remembers that it happened when she downloading something and it is very slow, then she press ESC key and the problem occurred. I want to know what would be the cause of this effect such that I can advise her to avoid from it. Thanks.

I've seen that caused my viruses/malware. Make sure her system is clean first.
You can try a system restore to a known good point.
