May I please have any links that can point me to removal tools available for McAfee Security Scan and Trand Micro Anti-Virus?
I want to install Microsoft Secutiry Essentials and would prefer to use any recommended removal tools available before I go the standard route of uninstall in Control Panel.
Thanks,
sbuxman

In the for what it's worth category, I looked over the specs. If it's in the budget, get more RAM. 512 MB is not enough for a good user experience with Vista. If it were mine, I'd put at least 2 GB in it...

sbuxman--Are you sure you want "removal" tools, rather than "disabling" McAfee Security Scan and Trand Micro Anti-Virus while you try MS Security Essentials. You say you eventually want to use uninstall in Control Panel.

"disabling" McAfee Security Scan and Trand Micro Anti-Virus while you try MS Security Essentials
Not a good idea.
No more than 1 AV should be present on ones computer no matter active or not.

Broni--Are you sure about that if all but one AV is disabled? If it is disabled, it is not active and should not interfere with an active AV.
Can you provide a reference concerning your opinion?

When you disable an AV program you don't prevent all of its elements from running.
You only disable real time protections.
Some drivers and services will still be active.
That's the main reason for having all those "X AV program removal tool".
Do you want to experiment?
Install second AV program disable it and post OTL log.
I'll show you how many items from that program are still loading and running around.
There is no reason to reinvent a wheel since all security experts will tell you very same same thing I just posted.
Having more than one AV program installed (active or not) will cause some issues sooner or later.

Thanks to all you folks...I've been using solely MSE for about 6 months now without any problems, so I hope to stick with it.

For AVG Internet Security 2011 version, which will expire in 6 days, does it matter which system I'm running it on? If not, may I please have the link to a removal tool, provided of course that one exists. Also, which do I run first: the removal tool or Uninstall in Control Panel, or doesn't it matter?
Thanks.

Don't use Control Panel.
Use AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

One more thing, please: this system also has Norton Internet Security and Norton Online Backup installed -- they may or may not be trial versions, but I'd still like to remove them completely. Is there also a removal tool for these Norton components?
Thanks,

Late to the fray, but just wanted to also give props to MSE; have been running on both machines for over a year. Previously used ESET which was good, but expensive ~ US$80 per year.
