Ascer Aspire 57322 will only boot in safe mode

I started getting a blue screen on my laptop suddenly and no way could I get it to boot other than in safe mode. Attempts to go to normal mode result in the screen full of files preparing for some form of ' Dump'

I tried all I knew but resorted to the local computer shop who kept the machine for 7 days then told me it was 'hard drive failure', this they later corrected to 'motherboard failure' and said that replacement would be uneconomical as the cost would be greater than that of a new machine !

The machine works fine in safe mode my files are available and open on demand but I can't connect to the web in safe mode and thus am stymied when it comes to any attempt at recovery.

I don't understand, how if all this works in safe mode, how it can be motherboard failure.

Can some kind person please advise me what should be my next step?

    I will acknowledge all replies
    John

Did you try Startup Repair? It's the topmost option on the same screen with the Safe mode option.
    1. Turn the computer off and wait 10 seconds
    2. Turn the computer back on and start slowly tapping the [F8] key
    3. A black screen with white text will come up
    4. Use the Up|Down arrow keys to select "Repair Your Computer" and press [Enter]
    5. On the next screen it'll ask which type of keyboard, click the Next> button
    6. If you have a Windows password, type it in on the next screen and click OK
    7. Click the "Startup Repair" link and follow the onscreen instructions
(If it gives you the option of doing a Windows "System Restore" you might want to try it)
    8. When it's done, cross your fingers and click Restart

    Thank you SpywareDr

It is some time since you helped me, and once again I am grateful for your assistance.

I followed your instructions and, as this is an Acer and Win7 sits on an Acer platform, there was a further option.... that of resetting to factory status. This I did, and thankfully was able to start the computer again. Then I transferred my data on from my Adata 500Gb portable hard drive now all is as before.

I took great pleasure from telling the local shop that I thought they were 'Kidding me' when they first told me 'The hard drive had failed' then next 'The motherboard needs replacing This will cost £400 plus! '

Once again I am so happy to have access to the forums and the wealth of knowledge that you folk share with us.

    Very best wishes
