Gateway LT4004u Netbook
Yesterday I purchased a new Gateway LT4004u netbook. On the first power on I was able to successfully get to Windows (OS is Windows 7 Starter 32-bit SP1). But whenever I try to restart, I cannot get back to Windows. All I get is a black/gray screen that is blank. In order for me to get back to Windows, I have to hold down the power button to do a restart which gets me to the screen where it lets me know that Windows didnt close properly. This happens everytime I restart my computer. This is the first netbook I've owned, so I was not sure if there is a setting that could have caused this. I feel that I have a defective unit, but wanted to check here first to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thank you, and as always any help or advice is appreciated.

No, you're not missing anything. Since there would be no reason for Windows to have a setting to enable|disable "a black/gray screen that is blank", forcing you to then "hold down the power button to do a restart", the unit must be defective.

It seems to be working this morning. I've restarted it at least 10 times and have had no problems todayt. Will continue to monitor. If it happens one more time will definitely take it back to get it replaced. Since I just purchased it yesterday I have a month to decide. Thank you for your help.
