Does the hp1050 scanner include OCt software?

My hp 1050 can scan a photo fine but I do not know if it can scan text and do OCR to create a WORD (or other format) digital file. If it can do so, would someone please tell me how I invoke that capability?

Did you click on the link I supplied in my last post? It tells you how to scan OCR with your printer.

Yes, I went to that site. Instructions there read:

The icon for your HP product and the HP scan icon ( ) display on the Windows desktop.
Click Start , click All Programs , and then click the HP folder.
If the name of your HP product (For example, HP Deskjet..., HP Officejet..., or HP Photosmart...) is in the list of HP programs, you are ready to begin."

Begin what? Begin using OCR or begin to start importing the software?

I do not have an HP Scan Icon on my Desktop but I do find the HP 1050A listed when I Start/All Programs/HP. So, do I have the software installed or not? I am unsure. I don't want to import it of I already have it.

First question I should have asked is, what is the exact model name and number of your printer. Supply that and possibly we can get a software package from HP for you to download. I don't think you have the software you need from HP.

First: I was wrong; I DO have the icon on my desktop.

I clicked it and found that I had six scan options: Photo to File; Photo to Email, Document to File, Photo to TIF, and Document to TIF. I selected Document to File and scanned the document and saved it as page test.pdf (PDF was the only option).

The file indeed looks like my original hardcopy but I think it may just be a picture of my original. For example, when I use Adobe Reader to view it I find that the Find command does NOT work. And I cannot highlight specific parts of the file.

So do I have the OCR software or not?

My All-in-One Scanner is the hp 1050A. If you want the serial number I can turn the unit over and look for it.

I believe you mean all in one printer. There should be another model name n it, either deskjet or photosmart..

It's sort of hard to tell someone how to use their software if we have never used it. This why I keep asking you different questons.

PhotoLady: Sorry to have been so imprecise. My All-in-One Printer is the Deskjet 1050A and I can't recall if I ever had it scan with OCR or not.

As I reported before, the options I see include File to PDF but the result does not <appear> to be in digital form but rather just a picture of the scanned document.

I gather from some of the others' posts that they believe that too.

I think the conclusion is, if you no longer have that software on your computer, you either need to see if HP has something you can use, or you need to buy or find a free OCR software.
