    Hard Drive Contents

The number of GBs now shown on my hard drive seems to have nearly doubled and I don't know how this happened. I installed the freebie Easy Duplicate Finder app and after seeing the results, I am reluctant to remove those many items identifiedby this app.. Has anyone used this application and did you have success? This is the SATA drive in my Compaq computer. As usual, TIA.

Unless the files are files YOU created - I wouldn't zap any.

This free app will scan the drive and give you a nice view of where the most files are.

Yeah, using a duplicate file finder is a sure ticket to disaster... there are lots of dupe files on every computer and nearly all are there for a reason.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.

Did the space used double before or after you installed the duplicate file finder software?

Thanks Steve, fink, JD for responding. I think I will just let things be and JD, I can't answer your question with any certainty. This could go back to my hard drive failure and I had to have another installed and then I used an Acronis image backup to get me back up and running. I did have some difficulty in getting the backup image properly installed and as soon as I could, I made a fresh backup. I noticed something was amiss i when I ran the easy duplicate app.

My HD was bloated with who-knows-what, and I used Disk Detective, which creates a graph of your HD. It showed that Windows install files for their updates use a huge amount of space in C:\Windows\Software Distribution. You can check that out with the guys here, as that's where I got the info.

There there's the KB installations on C.

I use Auslogics Dup Finder, and toss out only my own files.
