Resolved [RESOLVED] Dell XPS 9100 Fan Noise

Up until about a month ago, my 9100 had been operating very quietly, with the fans kicking in (and making noise/generating heat), only when I was gaming or editing video/photos. Now the thing is on all the time.

Any ideas about where to start? I'm thinking blowing out dust might be a good start.

Try monitoring the temperatures and voltages for a bit. These are all excellent freeware utilities. I particularly like Real Temp and HWMonitor. OCCT is superb for stress testing - if the PC can handle that, it can handle anything

    Real Temp

    HWMonitor

    OCCT

    PC Wizard

How long would you run a stress test for....1min, 2min.....10min....hour?

Personally, I run it until the core temps stop rising plus a couple of minutes. I rarely find any need to run the test for longer than 10 minutes myself. But there is no hard and fast rule.

8 to 10 minutes is all that I use. If temps hit 65C, time to recheck everything. But have not seen that happen in years.

Forgot about this thread. Sorry for not marking it resolved.

Blowing a little dust out of it worked like a champ.

    Thanks!
