No Boot.ini on C drive
I just noticed on startup of XP Pro it says something about missing boot.ini file then says it will boot c:\Windows which then starts up ok.So i searched for the file and it is not there And I have it set so it shows all files and system files.Also there is no boot.ini in msconfig. BUT I have a backup boot.ini file in C:\Windows\PSS folder that when opened in notepad shows this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Does this look correct for one hard drive with two partitions a C and a D and can I rename to boot.ini and copy to C drive to fix it?

That does indeed look like a standard boot.ini, you should be fine if you copy that over.
Alternatively, you can boot up with the WinXP CD in the drive, and go to the Recovery Console. At the command prompt, type "Fixboot", then type "Fixmbr", then "Bootcfg /rebuild" all without the quotes, pressing Enter after each command.
Nick.
