[RESOLVED] Frozen keyboard
The keyboard on my husband's HP laptop with Win Vista has stopped working. I may have touched a key that caused this. But how can it be fixed?

I very much doubt it was caused by touching a key. To ask the obvious first: have you tried rebooting?
Nick.

Do you have a USB keyboard that you can connect as a test?

Try this:- Power it down.
- Remove the power cord.
- Remove the battery.
- Wait two minutes.
- Put everything back together.
- Power it up and test.

If that doesn't work, try booting up in Safe Mode and see if the keyboard operates OK then.

If pressing [F8] (to get into Safe mode) works, you'll then know that at least one of the keys on the keyboard must be working.

That's one of the reasons I suggested it. It is diagnostic in itself if the keyboard works before the Windows drivers have loaded

I wholeheartedly agree.
I was going to mention trying to get into the BIOS after powering back up, but, as you are well aware, exactly which key(s) needs to be pressed to get into the BIOS varies widely. (<-grrr->).

Thanks to Spyware Doctor -- his tip worked!
Once again, this forum has saved me!!
Spyware Doctor's suggestion to unplug it, take the battery out, wait two minutes and put everything back worked like a charm!
Thank you fervently.
