Avast antivirus is stopped.
When I cranked up my computer this morning Avast posted a warning in the system tray which, when I opened it, says that Avast has "been stopped" or is in an "inconsistent state." There is a "start Avast" button and it also says to click the "Fix Now" button to correct the problem, but neither button does anything.
Using free version 6.0.1367, Windows 7 Home Premium. Advice?

Unintall and reinstall usually fixes most problems with software.

That Avast problem has showed up for a few folks lately and a uninstall, reboot then reinstall as worked for most of them. Sometimes when they change the version of Antivirus we have to do that.

Aha, got it, done. I didn't realize there was a one-year license, and I suspect mine had expired. I registered and now have a new one.
I guess an expired license is considered an "inconsistent state." Heh.
Thanks for clearing that up for me so quickly.
