Resolved [RESOLVED] Backup on win 7 ext hd drive?

I did a back up last night on a new seagate go flex 1.5t ext hd dr.

There were some issues getting the software installed but eventually supposedly ok.

Out of 270 gb it said it successfully backed up 92 gb, 400,000 some files.

It took 6- 7 hours or better, i let it on through the night.

Today, after i booted there was a notice that windows firewall had blocked some of the go flex?

I successfully safely removed it early this morning but have not re hooked it to see whats there.

Apparently i should have disconnected from the wifi and shut down the firewall? Never had this issue before

    Win 7 64bit, 320 gb hd dr, toshiba laptop c655 4g ram.

Go flex software was on drive it said but i could not find the exe to begin with, but on the 3rd attempt disconnecting all the software installed?

Just curious why the other 180 gb was not backed up except for the os etc?
    tks

How is the external drive connected? Is this a NAS drive connected via Ethernet?

Sounds like Ethernet or Wifi if it was taking that long to copy. What's the specific model of the external drive?

If possible, use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 connection instead. You'd want the most reliable connection when transferring such a high amount of data.

That's not the model number. I don't see a 1.5TB drive listed in the "Desk" group.
    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/pro...op-hard-drive/

For example, Model STAC2000106 is the USB 3.0 2TB drive.

How is the external connected to the computer? USB or network?

Those numbers didn't really help. Sounds like you have this one: Seagate STAC1500100 1.5TB

If it's connected via USB, then I don't see what the firewall has to do with it. Read the firewall errors again. It may have blocked an updater or something, but I don't think it would have stopped the backup process.

If you mean Windows Firewall, the errors should have been listed in the Event Viewer.

Is that from the error message in Event Viewer? I don't see any mention of firewall.

Are you using some Seagate backup software or another app? I don't have a Seagate, so I can't really help you there.

If you are just doing a file copy, try doing it in smaller batches. 270GB is a lot of data.

Did you ever try to start a car with the wrong key?

I had another ext drive once on this and the pc was recognizing the previous one and not the the current one I changed the devices and 14 hours later i have it accomplished.

    please delete the event log

    sorry
