double quotes changes case of text

    hi,

i'm running win7 home premium with office 2007. when i type into word, or hotmail using IE i'm getting weird behavior. if i set the caps lock to on, then type something its all caps. during the typing if i use a double quote, it deactivates the caps lock for the rest of the text unless i hit the caps lock again or hit the another double quote which reverts the case back to caps.

this has been the case since i got the computer several weeks ago.

    any thoughts?

    tia,
    dave

Do you get the same behavior in Notepad?

Fire up Regedit, then navigate to:

    HK_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout

If you see a key in there called "ScancodeMap", delete the key. That will revert the keyboard to default behaviour.

Have you tried a different keyboard?

If it's still the same with a different keyboard, try uninstalling the keyboard driver in Device Manager, then reboot the PC. Windows will re-install a driver on restart.

It is not there by default Jim, it is what you add if you need to change the function of any keys on the keyboard (I use it to disable the Caps Lock key, which drives me batty). I was thinking that somehow someone, or a program, could have added the Registry entry at some time.
