Resolved [RESOLVED] Do i need more RAM? 100% CPU usage

I have 3 browsers open, trying to get faster speed on the internet. Each browser has about 3-4 tabs open. It's taking forever to go from one screen to another. The CPU usage is 100% (maybe more)...do i need more ram? Will that help the internet speed?

You pretty much already have a thread on this subject here:

Adding 2 more gigs of rams would proably make a noticeable difference in how Windows behaves. Things would be snappier/ less slugish.

More ram won't help with download speeds etc.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I believe so too, I'm ordering it today. Can't take this slow speed and crashes anymore.
    Here are the specs:
    AMD Athlon Processor LE-1660
    Current speed 2.81 GHZ
    L1 Cache 64 KB, L2 Cache 512
    Memory size 2.00 GB

It has to be said that your processor is somewhat on the slow side by today's standards. Also, Vista was notorious for its sluggish performance. So you are never going to have a lightning quick PC however much RAM you throw at it. Nevertheless a bit more should help.

100% CPU use is certainly not a good thing. Go into the Task Manager>Processes tab make sure that CPU & CPU Time columns are selected (View>Select Columns). Click twice on the CPU column header and that will put the process that is using the most CPU cycles at the top. Make sure that "Show processes from all users" is checked. Ignore System Idle Process, a high value for that means that the CPU isn't doing much. Report back what you find.

You can also try Process Explorer for a more detailed view

More ram won't help your actual download speed, nor will it free up your CPU. You need to address the CPU load issue first.

    Reporting back:
    Performance
    CPU Usage 100%
Physical Memory low 72% high 79%
View> on Normal changed to "High" (is that OK?)

Checked under the Select Process Columns:
User name, CPU Usage, Memory-private working set, Description

    I checked CPU time.

    Processes:
System Idle Process24K (I don't know what all this means)

You need to look at which process is taking up the most CPU. Then you need to figure out how to remedy that.

    Did you scan for malware?

I don't see why you would buy a whole new computer just for Win7. My point was that Win7 runs better than Vista for me.

    When I bootup

When I bootup, a dialog box,
WINDOWS HOST PROCESS (RUNDLL32) HAS STOPPED WORKING

    Could that be the reason?

update: The more RAM (2 gig) works! The internet/browsers are not crashing and the machine is much faster!!! Love it.
