Resolved [RESOLVED] Google Chrome Desktop Icon Changed to Generic

    Another misery!

I have installed Googel Chrome which was fine, until an hour ago the desktop icon changed into the generic icon with folded corner, and nothing I can do can get it back. I have even removed Chrome (the desktop icon disappeared) and reinstalled it, but the problem persists - still a generic icon.

Trying to create a new icon simply creates another generic one.
Clicking on the generic icon runs the pogram normally.

Can a kind person help me overcome this?

EDIT: DONE IT! For benefit of others right click on icon > properties > change icon > select an icon

Did you try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state?

No, as I say, that was not necessary.

Just another way to do it. The first way is pretty easy though and it looks like you have multiple icon choices.

I realize that this is an old thread but I was looking for a solution to this problem and resolved it a little differently.

I saw the shortcut icon which reminded me that this was just a link to an actual program residing elsewhere. I right clicked the generic shortcut icon and chose "Open File Location". This took me directly to the Chrome.exe file which had the "chrome ball" logo intact. I right clicked chrome.exe and selected "Send To Desktop" which made a shortcut with the correct icon. I then deleted the generic one.
