DVD; where does the data go?

    Hi there,

Not a problem, just a question that interests me.

If I check nay DVD movie, it contains anywhere from 7gb and upwards of files. I know these may be dual layered, etc.

If I reduce this with DVD Shrink so that I can create a back-up copy, it is reduced to around 4.3 gb. When I check the back-up, it looks just fine.

So where does the information vanish to that I can reduce from 7 gb to 4.3gb? Why are commercial DVD files so large if I can get what seems to be the same quality onto 4.3gb?

Thanks for the link. Makes sense; I don't notice a loss of quality on a 24" monitor.

Yep, that's the goal. Reduce the quality just enough so that most of us won't notice.
