Can't manually move pictures in Pictures folder
For some reason I cannot move any pictures around in the Pictures folder in Windows 7. If I try to put them in a specific order they just go right back to where they came from. Very frustrating.

The are shown in whatever order you have selected for that folder. What order do you want them in - name, date, etc.?

Windows determines the order used - name, date, etc. If you want them in a specific order, you will have to select Name, and then rename them something like the following:
000001 - Picture name one
000002 - Another picture name
000003 - Yet another picture
000004 - photo of who knows what

Tips for organizing pictures
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...izing-pictures
I work with thousands of heirloom pictures and I agree it is darn tough to figure out a way that places the person in the right family without actually putting the ID on the graphic. I actually put the name/data on the graphic, then anyone looking, knows who the person is.
Paint and the snip tool, native to Win 7 are all I need.

Basically what I am trying to do is go into the Pictures folder that I have 75 pictures in named anywhere from Pic 001 to Pic 0075. If I want to drag picture 074 and put it between Pictures 003 and 004 it won't move. It just goes back to the spot where 074 orginally came from.

Rename picture 074 to 003A.
Then it will stay put.
Then the list will look like this:
003
003A
004
etc.

That won't work. Windows won't allow you to do that. To do that, you need third party software to create a slide show. Even with third party software, the order of the pictures won't change in Windows Explorer. To get the pictures in the order you want in Windows Explorer, you are going to have to rename them so the names are in numerical (or alphanumeric) order.

Another alternative might be to tag your photos. Then you can put the Tags column into Explorer (in Details view only), and by clicking on the Tags column header it will order by that column.

I am going through the same thing! I was able to do this just fine and I had to reset my laptop to factory settings 2 nights ago and now I can't move pictures of my inventory into their respective spots. EX: I have a medium top at the end of the pictures in the folder and I can't get it to move up with the other mediums...it won't leave the 3XL tops....grrr!!!
