Resolved [RESOLVED] Windows Update error 80072efd

I recently noted that Windows Update was no longer works and produces error 80072efd. I dont know when the update stopped working. I recently installed Office 2010 and a Logitech cam. To check if these were problems I uninstalled the Logitec cam and use Acronis to go back before Office 2010 to Office 2003 and the error still occurs. Updating Microsoft Security Essentials is OK. Looking at Internet Explores and going to widows Update there is a reference to ActiveX need to be added but I don't know how to???

PS Microsoft Security Essentials update now fails - internet connectivity problem!!!!

    Try this:

    1. Click the "Start" Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".

    2. Right-click “Command Prompt” Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Type "netsh winhttp reset proxy" (without quotes) at the command prompt, and press Enter.

    4. Try the update again.

Thank you very very much it worked like a charm.

I now know how the proxy was set - my wile logs onto a secure school site and from time to time it request setting a proxy and of cause does not remove the proxy on exit.

    Thank you again.

As previously mentioned this worked perfectly but I have a related question. I tried before the solution was provided an Acroniis Image right back 6 months but the problem was still there. The question is where is the proxy set - on the PC or external so the image does not contain the proxy settings???

The proxy settings is in Windows. A proxy SERVER would be on another system.
