[RESOLVED] Windows Update Failed
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and MS Outlook 2010, I keep getting a message update ready to install so when I download the update I then get the message update failed and the error code 80070643.
The update that it's trying to install is Security Update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 (KB2464594).
I've tried the help from MS and with no joy and no real explination as to why it hasn't insatlled.
Please help the machine is working fine, it's just annoying.

Tried this fix manually and then tried to get the ms fix it now option and it tells me that "The product ID number you entered has expired. Please enter another product ID number or select a different support option below". My Windows 7 is genuine and the other options are way too expensive.
When I tried the manual fix I get the error shown below
C:\Users\******\Desktop\LoggingOn.reg:The Specified file is not a registry script.
You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.
Please this seems a lot of hassle to fix an Office 2007 power point when I'm using Office 2010. Please advise Cheers.

Aha, that may be the cause of the problem, that Windows Update is trying to install an update that isn't actually required. I'm using Office 2010, and Update has never wanted to install a PP2007 update on mine - I've just checked the Update History. The easiest thing to do might be top just hide that Update so that it doesn't nag you any more.
What is the KB number of the Update?
Nick.

The Kb of the update is KB2464594 I hope this is of some help, will try abd get the update to ignore this update will let you know how I do.
Before I installed Office 2010 I did have 2007 installed there maybe some file from 2007 that is not fully uninstalled or shares a similar file as 2010, just a thought.
Cheers for the help.

It would seem to be a common problem with that particular update, and is indeed caused by a Registry leftover from having Office 2007 installed (I installed Office 2010 clean on mine). You can safely hide that update without worrying that your PC is insecure

Hiding the update seems to have worked as it is no longer showing everytime I shut down, thanks for the advice and help, will mark as resolved.
