Websites that sign you out or log you out

How come my Yahoo mail and my Gmail and my forums like Virtual Dr will never sign me out but websites like Ebay will sign you out? How do they do it? Is it some kind of timer on the website that knows that so many hours are up so sign this person out??

How is it done? Banks + credit card websites especially have a short fuse.
Note: My questions may be to help others
    Thanks, JB

The "don't" store the user name password in cookies....thus the info isn't there the next time you go to their sites.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

    Wow, OK.
I also have Empty Temporary Internet Files When Browser is Closed but I suppose this does not matter.

No, but deleting cookies will have a big impact. Sites store login info in (encrypted) them so with all cookies gone you'll need to relog in to all your sites.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
    Check back regularly for responses.

Yes I like deleting my cookies. That is the way that I remembered all my passwords for all my different logins. I worked with alot of people on their computers. I run CCleaner and these people are not logged into their email any more and don't know their passwords. They even argue that they never had a password. They have been logged in for years without ever needing to log in. They don't have their passwords written down anywhere.

Don't want to be like that. I have my passwords written in my black book and also copied to a document and also copied to two email accounts.

I have them encrypted of course so the look something like this: XXXXcat or XXXXdog or XXXXfish. Just an example of course and of course the Xs are something I have in my head only. So if anyone ever sees this password list then they will say, what's with the Xs.
